Okay, I can understand if I just posted your bands project and you never knew and wanted it removed...I wouldn't do it out of principle but I'd still understand where you were coming from. Now the thing is, if you submit a release to us, and I post it, there's absolutely no way in hell it's being removed. YOU submitted it. Not me. It's foolish to do shit like that. I don't make money off of this, and I have had the opportunity to. I've been offered money to place ads, offered clothing, all sorts of shit. We've remained true to the spirit of the underground. If you or your label are trying to profit off of punk and metal or any of it's subgenres you can quite literally fuck off and go join Linkin Park or some other mainstream garbage band. Okay I got that off my chest.

The next thing is, I was going to start posting bands and projects from other genres, thinking it would be awesome. It's been a pain in the ass is what it's been. So I'm not doing it anymore. All of these artists want a review written without a download link. This blog has been in existence for three years almost and we've always provided a download link. We haven't always done reviews, mostly only do them on submitted stuff from artists.

So in lamens or lesser terms. If you submit it, it's not being removed, even if you report it to the file hosting site or whatever, I'll reupload it EVERYWHERE and post the download links all over the internet. So don't make this stupid request to me.

Secondly, use common sense, if your band doesn't resemble anything on this blog even in the slightest, do not submit your band. I'll either end up not reviewing it or if it's terrible writing a review saying how terrible it is. Which leads to the band members being mad, and me being mad because I had to listen to an album that I think sucks more than once. Let's not waste each others time.

Review: Black Dawn - Age of Reason - 2004

I'm not Willy Wonka, so I'm not going to sugarcoat anything. Firstly, this was sent to me in the mail, so I'm not posting this as a download, mostly because it's already costed the band for postage, which sucks. Secondly this album was monotonous and boring to me.

Every song sounded the same. There was no variety at all. It was hard to sit through 11songs that sounded so much alike. Granted I'm not usually into this type of metal. "Dangerous" finally broke the boredom cycle with a fairly long and much needed guitar solo. I can respect the talent musically and vocally. I would have liked there to be a little more variety musically though.

Black Dawn instantly reminded me of like the type of mainstream metal that was played on the radio during the late 90's and early 00's, think of like taking elements from Pantera, Fear Factory, Godsmack, etc. and mixing them up to create a new band. Which isn't necessarily the worst thing ever.

If you're a die hard metal fan you will probably really enjoy this album. The vocals are pretty much sung, no growls, screams, etc. The vocalist really reminds me of the guy from Godsmack.The guitars are primarily heavy, crunching, that intertwines with the bass. The drums are primarily typical rock/alternative metal style. No blasting, double bass here and there, just straight up playing.

In all honesty this was just really boring to me. Not one song really stood out to me as truly amazing. It was almost torture to have to review this because of the boredom factor.

Album: Shokushu Goukan - Tissisnalajrak - 2011

So...I heard you like your grindcore spastic, short, and full of insane blasting. Well do I ever have a treat for you... Shokushu Goukan may sound like they're Japanese but they're not. This is just straight up brutal grind. Drums blazingly fast and full of blasts, guitars heavy and buzzing, and screams that literally sound like a ghost rape scene.

In the last couple of years there tends to be a pretty solid uprising in the grindcore genre after like a 7 year drought of garbage being put out by hipsters that thought Napalm Death was the most awesome shit they ever heard. So this was definitely a step in the right direction.If you're a grindcore elitist like me you're well aware that this type of band really died out in the early 2000's when assholes found out about it and started retarding it up with tech playing, 5 minute long epic blast ballads and started doing other misc stupid shit in the genre instead of keeping it raw, short, and full of aggression.

Some people that like the above latter bullshit will probably say this band sounds like so and so, but I say your favorite grindcore sucks then. Go back to listening to The Locust you fuck. This just goes to show you how aggressive this release is, this is obviously my most angry review ever.

Anyway, Shokushu Goukan's "Tissisnalajrak" clocks in at 17:40 in 27 songs. It's full of bizarre sound clips and generally chaotic.There's even a Star Wars clip in one song! The downside is that there are a lot of sound clips...and that kind of A.D.H.D.'d my ass a lot during listening to this regardless of how short the songs are. As far as musically goes this album is how I envision grindcore as a genre of music. The drums are relentless with blasts, only slowing down when one song ends until the next begins. The guitars heavy, distorted and a wall of buzzing. Feedback is the understatement of the year on this release. The vocals...well, there's a lot of vocal effects used, which I'm not usually a fan of especially since I prefer lo-fi, rawness in vocal production. Some how though this didn't really seem to effect my liking this album. It actually sounded awesome combined with the music!

If you're into grindcore especially old school sounding stuff this will be right up your alley. It's a very solid release. I'm extremely interested in a second release to see how it would measure up to this. Anyway get to downloading now!

Interview: Disease Process. "Its a Punk thing at heart but more realistically its because there is no other choice."

I'm always excited when I find out about new grindcore. Especially Australian based bands. When I received an e-mail from Joel, I didn't know what to think except the name sounded cool. Little did I know that I was about to load the years best grindcore album into my media player. Yeah I said it. Anyway, these cool dudes took some time out to answer some of my questions....

WRE: Who's in the band and what are your duties? Since there's very little information online about you guys give us a little bit of background about the band and the members. Give us the who, what, when, where, and why of Disease Process.

Todd: The band is and will always be Joel on vocals, Jon on drums, Dave on bass and Todd on guitar. There might still be a band if one of us was missing but it wouldn't be DISEASE PROCESS.

WRE: How did Disease Process form?

Joel: Jon, Todd & I had been jamming in an avant-garde doom drone project called "Fill The Skies With Steel" but as we actually began writing songs as opposed to just improv jamming the tone took on a much more focused and aggressive stance. Needing a bassist to fill the sound out Enter Dave.. from there you have what Disease Process is today.

WRE: Have you guys been in any other bands? If so which ones?

Jon: During 2003 - 2009 I played bass then guitar for The Furor; black/death metal inspired by bands including Angelcorpse, Absu, anything crazy. I've also played in a number of other bands over the years. Cuntscrape, Hated by Humanity and Goatrapist to name a few.

Joel: Ten2Go, Agony, Death Grenade, Fill The Skies With Steel, Shotgun Wedding, Rhino Slumber.. along with many others.

Todd: Yeah like we said before Joel, Jon and I (Todd) were playing in "Fill the Skies", before that a few years earlier Joel and Dave were in a ska/crust band called "Ten2Go" (and so was Todd for about two seconds). And of course Jon was known as Killmachine in the black metal group "The Furor". Other notable bands members were in are - "Death Grenade", "Agony" and "Cunt Scrape". None of the bands we were in before touched DxP in style, this band is unique. Black metal, grind, crust punk are all on equal footing and it's evident when we gig that fans of all three styles are listening to what we are doing.

WRE: How did you come up with the name Disease Process?

Joel: It's the nature of mankind. Love or hate we are all a cancer on the face of this earth. Poisoned by greed and pride we relentlessly slaughter both habitat and self in hopes to appease the false prophets that we bow before. As a species we are flawed, weak and intolerable. We are the cancer. Humanity is the DISEASE PROCESS.

WRE: Did you ever change the name before you came up with Disease Process?

Dave: No.

WRE: How long have you guys known each other/been friends?

Jon: I've known Todd since we were very young, although I lost contact for a number of years, in 2008 I caught up with him, unaware that we played music in similar scenes with the same musicians. I met the other guys in the last few years.

Dave: I've known Joel for around 6 years and I've known Todd 5 years. Jon i met 2 years ago.

Todd: We have all known each other for fucking years. We are all mates, go out for dinner, go to each others houses and listen to music together, steal each others music!

WRE: You guys are from Perth Australia, how is the crust, grindcore, punk, and metal scenes there?

Todd: We have a really supportive scene everyone encourages everyone to get better (mostly by being amazing and everyone having to be just as good Hahah) the only thing I see wrong with anything is the fact that there is hardly any cross pollination at the moment.

Joel: Saying that there are some incredible bands like - SUFFER, WARTHREAT, MAXIMUM PERVERSION, THE HUNT, THE CRAW, NEGATIVE REINFORCEMENT, HELTER SKELTER, DROWNING HORSE, FOREIGN AIDS, and LIE CYCLE.

Jon: People are enthusiastic but identity can be a struggle. It's just my opinion but I think there should be more bands like Sadistik Exekution, Destroyer666 in Australia. Having said that I should mention that I come from a black metal background; I don't know much about the crust, punk or grindcore scenes.

WRE: Your lyrical content is anarcho in nature, do you feel the lyrics or music to be more important in Disease Process?

Joel: The music is as much a vessel for the words as is the words are a reflection of the music.

Todd: It's one and the same, the vocals are another instrument! Sure they have the massive job of getting the theme of not only the song but also the band across but it's not a matter of lyrics vs music because they go hand in hand.

WRE: In correspodences between Joel and I he said a lot of lyrical content is also attacking the Proletariat, what is that exactly?

Joel: Hahaha, you must have taken me out of context. The lyrical content is not an attack on the proletariat but rather the truth and sorrow that lies in the hearts of the down trodden and disenchanted. We are the proletariat. The Working Class. The low income earners. The scum that fuel our economy.

WRE: You also have lyrics attacking religion for their injustices, and corrupt government and people that support this, is that a global message?

Dave: Religion has no right in governing our world/countries; government should be about what's best for THE people, NOT what's best for my people.

WRE: Who writes your songs? Is it a group effort or is there one band member that does most of it?

Jon: We all have input in the writing process. I contribute more on arrangements, but if they let me play as many blast beats as I can get away with I'm happy.

Todd: Joel writes all the lyrics, Dave and I write the riffs, and Jon pretty much writes the structure. We all contribute I walk in and say this is what I've got, or Dave says it, and we play start playing riffs, Joel sits in the corner writing lyrics and saying things like I feel that it should go in this or that direction and Jon quietly blast beats away before stopping and saying that should be longer or we can move those parts around in a different order. And the best bit is the only person who ever goes "nah that is shit" is usually the person who comes up with the riff!

WRE: I know that American government is tyrranical and corrupt is it also like that in Australia?

Todd: I don't think the Aus government is corrupt per sè just ineffectual, I mean the decision makers just seem to revolve around useless issues and stands against pointless fear, fear which they and the media build up to support themselves, case in point- refugees. The average Australian is fucking terrified of a couple of hundred people every few months turning up in old leaky boats, apparently these people are dangerous criminals, what do we do? We lock them up, no charges because really they haven't done anything, every night on the "news" someone is bleating about stopping the boats and how the current govt. (doesn't matter which govt.) is a soft touch blah blah blah, it's all bullshit, it doesn't matter who you vote for they are all useless. So corrupt probably not, pointless definitely.

WRE: What other lyrical themes do you guys use in your songs? Do you see them changing ever over time?

Joel: Some more Eco & (Anti) Humanitarian issues. It is still the Disease Process that drives the lyrics. An overwhelming disdain for the arrogance of Human life and the careless and reckless impact that we have had upon our own inhabitat. And as always the separation of church and state.

WRE: What bands are influential to you guys in the grindcore/hardcore/black metal/punk scenes? Is there any bands from other genres that you guys consider influential to your music and lyric writing for Disease Process?

Todd: I don't really know how to answer this, I don't say I want to sound like this or anything like that, I just write what I like to hear. I think you can hear touches of what I listen to, bits and pieces of guitarists and bands that I grew up with, but mostly what influences me is music I definitely don't want to sound like hahaha. seriously? I dunno I just wanna make the best music I can, the guys in the band, the bands at our rehearsal space- warthreat, suffer these are who influence me.

Jon: For Disease Process I take inspiration from a certain style of black metal drumming found in such bands as Enthral, Satyricon, early Dimmu Borgir and combine it with the aggression of grindcore and punk.

Joel: El - Ahariah. Disguster. Avulse. there is some incredible raw & punishing Black Metal coming out of the US at the moment. But locally bands like SUFFER, WARTHREAT, DROWNING HORSE, FOREIGN AIDS, and THE HUNT.

WRE: Is there any literature, other types of artwork, or people that have been influential in shaping the message that the band has?

Todd: absolutely- Richard Dawkins, Peter singer, Nietzche, Robert Browning, John Milton, Edward Munch, Marquis de Sade, Troma, David Lynch, and Reed Ghazala.

Joel: William Godwin, Louis Theroux, Emma Goldman, Aleister Crowley, Werner Herzog, Clive Barker & Virginia Bolten.

WRE: What's everyone's current favorite band?

Jon: I've been listening Taake a lot lately, their latest album 'Noregs Vaapen' has proved to be particularly enjoyable. Absu are still causing my understanding of reality to shatter in the evidence of their latest work, once again they have not disappointed with 'Abzu' this year. Faith No More have been given attention lately too. Aphex Twin, Suicide, Goblin ..

Dave: Dancehall Satan.

WRE: If you had to describe Disease Process in 5 words what would they be?

Todd: Brutal, honest, uncompromising.

Jon: I wouldn't, I'd join together 10 words as one so I could communicate my ideas with 50 words or less, it would be a lot easier.

Dave: Angst, equality.

WRE: What are your current plans?

Todd: I just want to keep writing music, get better keep pushing ourselves to go places with our music we haven't been before and to play stuff that no one has heard before! right now our next release is a split 7" with Massgrav from Sweden, which I'm really looking forward to releasing should be out fucking soon!! Then after that it's back in the studio for our 12".

WRE: Do you guys play live often? If so what was your favorite show you've played and why? What was your least favorite show?

Todd: Not as often as some bands but enough, I know that playing live is meant to almost be the be all of playing in a band but at this stage I am really happy with how we are going. Dave: Favorite place to play is 208. its a house that has had punk shows in the lounge room since i can remember.. at least 10 years, favorite show Bastardfest!

Jon: We play every once in a while. I'm not interested in gigging constantly, all the shows have been good though. Bastardfest recently was a highlight.

WRE: Was your self titled cassette self produced or did you use someone else to produce it?

Todd: We recorded the album with Brett at Sound Suite studios, our home as a band. We practice a couple of times a week there. Brett was our first and only choice. We have recorded with him so much he knows us he knows our band and he knows our sound. I know one take, home 4 track recordings are punk but I don't give a shit about that. We have up to six guitar tracks, the same amount of vocal tracks even the drums and bass have more than one track per song. When we play live it is no nonsense full speed ahead and fuck you if you get in our way, on the recording we wanted some fucking big sound so...record a big fucking sound is the answer and Brett did a great fucking job, he always does.

WRE: Is the DIY ethic important to Disease Process as a band?

Joel: Its a Punk thing at heart but more realistically its because there is no other choice. We all have full time jobs, lives, family's. There is no rock star dream just cathartic audio expression & good friends.

Todd: Of course DIY is important, we are punks hahaha, we record our own demos on the four track (even if we didn't do the album that way) in the studio and at joels place. We found out the costs to do everything, we released the album on my label Rest in Punk, Dave (bass) designed the cover layout, we even cut out the covers by hand on the kitchen table hahaha. Is there any other way to release an album?

WRE: Have you found the internet and blogs beneficial to helping the spread of your message and music?

Jon: Yes, of course. The internet has exposed everything really. I feel it is now the responsibility of the musician to focus on creating something worth downloading for free and to hope that music fans will appreciate it enough to want to make a purchase.

WRE: Do you guys have any plans to go on tour in the future?

Todd: Fuck yes, we have already been invited to tour pretty much all of south east Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia from Johor Baru to KL up to Penang then across to Singapore) with a few friends of ours over there which will hopefully be next year fingers crossed. Also because of the split with Massgrav I'd really love to do Sweden, Finland, Norway and Russia but the cost is gonna be massive from Australia!

WRE: In e-mail correspondence Joel had told me some of the new material is going to be a little different. How do you guys approach growth and writing new material?

Todd: Our new songs are getting a lot more complex, we are really starting to push the mix of crust punk vs black metal the d beat vs the blast beat. Also whilst our old songs are fast the new ones are 50 times faster and longer. And I really think we aren't doing it consiously it's just a natural progression.

WRE: Do you guys have any advice for people wanting to start their own band?

Jon: Don't worry about fitting inside the box or emulating your favourite bands/the scene whatever. This is a distraction from your goal to create something interesting. Just keep refining your music until it sounds good, pay attention to the flow of the song structure when writing, if anything tastes bad, chances are it just needs a bit of ironing out - don't throw the baby out with the bathwater plus if all else fails, blast beats.

WRE: What are your guys thoughts on the global society we are all living under?

Joel: To the lesser extent you and I are lucky! At least our governments offer the guise of a democratic office, they lie cheat and steal but all behind closed doors baring the occasional media bating. The weight of oppression we feel bares nothing of that does someone living in a tyrannical totalitarian and sometimes hostile situation.

Todd: It's a fucking sad state of affairs we live in today. This world is fucked and let's be honest only about 10% of the world is responsible. We live in capitalist world and we are all guilty, we all buy in,... 80 dollar bullet belt! Friends in Malaysia live on less than that for a week, food rent - everything. We are destroying the world bit by bit.

So you never heard of Thou? Maybe you have and maybe you haven't. I was lucky to actually find out about this band while they were relatively still unknown except to uber underground kids and people that happened to see them roll through their town while going to see a different band. I actually found out about them through hellkontroll... Anyway they are from NOLA(New Orleans Lousiana) they are heavy, full of despair, and they cover a shit load of Nirvana and Black Sabbath tunes(which fucking rules) I may or may not ever post their albums. They post everything they release on their website. I'll probably write some reviews soon and see if they'll post it on their site. They are very active in the underground and relentlessly play shows/tour. Speaking of tours this amazing band is currently in the middle of one, so I'm posting the dates. Go fucking see these guys. I am actually going to try and see them three times in December. This is a full U.S. Tour over 4 months, pretty sick! This is all straight from their site.

I don't recall if this was submitted via e-mail or left as a link in the shout box. All I know is lately we've been lacking on the black metal here at the blog. Come uber kvlt black metal bands? What the fuck? Submit your stuff. One of my favorite genres. I also can't remember what year this came out in either so if you know that please comment. Also from what I read this was based out of Sweden and Lebanon? If I'm wrong please correct me.

So if you ever tried to research this band on the internet you're probably at a loss for the little bit of content that you will find. Between the couple of sites lik etheir myspace and last.fm site it doesn't offer much. This isn't odd though, a fairly common occurence for underground bands. Perhaps in time underground bands will take time off from making bad ass tunes, touring/playing shows to write extensive biographies for blog/zine writers. ha ha ha...probably not though.

Well what I can tell you from the name is that this is total Von worship. That right there should tell you how awesome this shit is, unless you don't listen to Black Metal, in that case you are probably even more confused. So a brief explanation is in order. Von is a uber underground U.S. Black Metal band formed in 1988. They broke up a couple of years later with a handful of demos circulating amongst the Black Metal scene at the time. To come back and reissue some of these. During all these years they have gained a kvlt following and many bands have risen up in the same style of manner that Von delivered, some times even more brutal than Von themselves. Many bands have cited Von as a major influence world wide. They continue to have a huge following. Veinen here being one of them, they actually got their band name after one of the founding members of Von "Jason "Veinen" Ventura. Von actually grew on me because my first introduction to Black Metal was purely based on extremely raw black metal.

Veinen didn't quite capture the rawness of Von on this release, but they did happen to capture the same intensity and speed, just with a cleaner production. I think it's because Von had an almost lo-fi type of sound and this doesn't. It's definitely a great E.P. They would have made Von proud with this. I feel that this release stayed more on the thrash/punk side of the fence when it came to guitar playing.Maybe it's the type of distortion, I dunno. Kind of monotonous guitar playing, not very Black Metal based. It's actually kind of cool, because it's not the typical type of stuff that Von worship plays. But the vocals are tormented echoing screams, the drums are relentless in blasting, only slowing during break downs. If you are really into Von these guys will be right up your alley. There's really not much more to say, except download this!

Evolved As None bring some intense, raw, straight up grindcore from Finland. There is pretty much little to no information online about them which isn't strange for a lot of underground grindcore bands. I ave no idea how many members of the band there are. I'm guessing based on the little bit of information online that this is their first release, which was a cassette tape limited to 50 copies.

This E.P. is harsh, abrasive, insane, raw, and blazing fast. The drummer is relentlessly killing it with blasts. The guitar playing is basically a distorted wall of buzzing noise. The vocals are a trade off of screams kind of similar to what Spazz used to do. Except they are a lot more intense.

This E.P. is straight up pandemonium from beginning to end. They deliver 8 songs in 7:13 of some crushing grindcore, the only time it lets up even for a second is the moment of silence between songs. No breakdowns here buddy. This is purely for getting your ass handed to you and your head grinded in. Audio warfare, a blitzkrieg of grindcore on the unsuspecting border that is your mind.

Album: Aver - Selftitled - 2011

Aver e-mailed me, they are an independent, Australian, experimental, grunge, ambient, stoner, post-hardcore, alternative, 4 piece, rock band. This has elements of the early 90's alternative rock that I grew up on. You know like Nirvana, Bush, Stone Temple Pilots, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc. The only thing is Aver mixed in some instruments not necessarily used by those bands. There's moments of tribal drum beats played with didgeridoo. This is a unique submission. They didn't just smash genre boundaries in heavy music, but also in various other genres such as tribal music. They blended them together to create something new. It's a really trippy album. Imagine Enya after smoking a bunch of weed while listening to Black Sabbath and The Melvins giving birth to Nirvana in the middle of a drum circle and you have Aver. They some how took the abrasiveness of heavy music and turned it into beautiful music, with groovy melodies. At time even the screaming goes perfectly with the music, as well as the singing. I'm reminded of so many different bands while listening to this album.

The most strange things is I don't understand how bands like this go unsigned, when they are creating amazing, different, talented music. But they'll sign some mediocre shit that is singing about bullshit and aren't even really good musicians or even artistic at that. It blows my fucking mind. If I had a label, you bet your ass Aver would be one of the first acts signed. Seriously one of the most amazing rock bands I've heard in sometime.

Some notable tracks on the album are "Real Eyes" which is an almost grungy type of punk tune, but like that late 70's/early 80's punk. It has moments of experimental soft rock during the chorus, it's a nice constrast. "Anti Matter" which starts out almost depressing with djembe and psychedelic guitars, picks up in what I can only describe as a Sonic Youth on drugs type of song, it sneakily gets heavy momentarily to go back into a haunting melody with vocals just as haunting."Stoneage Wasteland" painted an image in my mind of a desolate scenery, with tumbleweeds rolling by, so haunting, to making that all melt away with a heavy interlude of rock madness.

I guess that's a perfect way to describe Aver, you can spend a lot of time trying to figure out what genre of music they play, which is a waste of time as far as I'm concerned. Or you can enjoy these songs that will paint images in your mind with haunting, groovy, at some times heavy, tunes that you surely won't forget for some time. The best part is they are allowing us to check it out for free! So download this now!

Album: Kindergarten Hazing Ritual - Because Reality is Shit - 2011

I remember it like it was yesterday, even though it was 10 years ago when I stumbled across a project that would change the way I viewed grindcore forever. The first song I ever heard by this project was "Jen Has Herpes and Gonorrhea" that still remains one of my all time favorite grindcore songs ever. I proudly own Kindergarten Hazing Rituals entire discography between hard copies and mp3s, besides anything that hasn't been released yet.I'd argue anyone for biggest fan too. He's branched off into many other genres, even was in another grindcore band that played live shows and nothing in my opinion has compared to the psychotic intensity of Kindergarten Hazing Ritual.

This one man project is by far the most interesting, bizarre, insane, roller coaster ride ever to hit one man and e-grind projects. This is even better than Agoraphobic Nosebleed as far as I'm concerned. The songs are a combination of metal based grindcore filled with 8 bit mayhem and sound clips from various television shows, and movies, intertwined with screaming vocals.

There are elements from other types of music in this. There's techno, breakcore, metal, hardcore, sludge,post-harcore, it's just all brought together into grind. It's almost impossible to explain in words how awesome this project is. In order to get a full effect I'll use two stories that are 100% true to illustrate my point....

One time I was tripping on acid with a bunch of metalheads and we were listening to grindcore. I suggested we pop in a Kindergarten Hazing Ritual album, it was actually brand new and Monster had just sent me the hard copy in themail, I was super stoked to listen to it.We made it a whopping 7 songs before these uber brutal metalheads had to tap out. "We need tot urn this off, I'm getting scared." was actually uttered by one person. And another said"This is freaking me out, I'm having an anxiety attack."

On another occasion someone got their ass beat because they broke the case and ripped the cd booklet from one of Kindergarten hazing Ritual releases. The parties involved won't be mentioned.

Because Reality Is Shit is full of video game music, grinding insanity, nerd references, inside jokes, misogyny, and hatred and disgust towards the absurd shitty things in life. This is a reoccurring theme in all KHR releases. KHR continues to push the envelope in the e-grind/cybergrind community. I have yet to see a band in the genre that not only has lasted as long but continues putting out amazing material also.

I like every track on the album, which isn't surprising. I have always liked every track on every KHR release, I have even appeared on a previous album on a hidden track where I talk about uber kvlt black metal. Some of the more notable tracks on the album are "A Stripper Named Gertrude" which is a clusterfuck of grind and 8-bit insanity featuring Venture Bros.(At least i think it's this show) sound clips, very explosive. "I Hope Some Dude From A Black Metal Band Takes a Picture of You After You Blow Your Brains Out" the vocals on this tracks are the most bi-polar shit ever, you think your girlfriend is bad? This sounds like 4 different vocalists on this track, and it's not. The music is just as intense, with bone crushing guitars and blast beats that sound like a machine gun on speed. "I've Lost My Library Card, I'm in a K-hole, I'm a Prick" is just straight grinding until the jerk you to the right, 8-bit turn it takes, into an ambient sound scape while a sound clip plays, right back into grinding your fucking mind into a mixture of both. The vocals sound like an argument between a group of people. "The Christine Chubbuck Anniversary Special" (in case you never heard of Christine Chubbuck go here) The vocals are some great screams, with an almost death metal type of guitar playing, backed by the intensity of blasts that will crush your pathetic soul into dust. "Cannabis Mutants From Outer Space Washed My Dishes Yesterday, I Thanked Them and They Gave Me Free Tickets to a Michael Jackson Concert" stayed pretty noise-grind with a punk overtone. Reminded me of an artistic version of Sore Throat.

You'll never meet a bigger Kindergarten Hazing Ritual fan than I am. This isn't going to be for everyone. If you're sick of the same old shit in every genre then this will be for you. If you're cool listening to the same cloned as shit by every band you may not like this. I believe in music being artistic and bands should differentiate themselves from the other bands in their genres. This has been done by Kindergarten Hazing Ritual. So snap the fuck out of it and download this right now.

Album: Szeol - Wzrok I Wizj A - 2011

Remember when I posted Szeol's demo last year? Well if you don't you can click that link. It was some of the most interesting, experimental, gloomy, depressing, miserable, and sorrow filled sludge I have ever heard. Well they upped the ante here with their newest release.

They managed to create some of the most chaotic sludge I have ever heard. Distortion learned everything it knows from this release and raped the guitars. With ambient effects to create a sound that is torturous to anything with the least bit of happiness. The vocalist sounds like he's trapped in a cell screaming so loud that it's echoing off the corridor walls into a microphone. Sometimes the fellow band members offer their cries for help to the deaf hallways of pain and isolation also. The drums bellowing, heavy like those being played by ancient warriors before they march into war.

Szeol was already becoming my favorite sludge band, but this sealed it for me. This is the heaviest, most creative, pain filled sludge release ever. To me this makes Dystopia look like Disney Land and Eyehategod look like a prozac prescription. They have managed to revolutionize the genre with their releases.

Some notable tracks on the album are "Przytomnosc" if you look this song up in the dictionary the definition is "heavy" The vocals are insane! and the drums and guitar work are noisy, fast, and tear shit the fuck up. "Ofiarowani matrycy" begins with dogs yelping and a bizarre, eerie amibient guitar with toms before bellowing massive amounts of feedback and explodes into a psychotic episode of hatred and pain.

Just a masterpiece in the sludge genre. I can't comprehend how this band isn't more popular. Like I said it's some of the most avant-garde, progressive sludge out right now. Album: Moribund Scum - Into The Void Live @ Nexus Braunschweig 6-23-11 - 2011

Ros from Government Power Abuse e-mailed me saying he had a new project. Since Government Power Abuse fucking ruled I definitely had to check this out. I had no idea Ros was going to grind my mind! I was expecting hardcore and got grindcore. That's a pretty sweet deal if you ask me! This is a live recording of some heavy, fast, sloppy, noisy ass grindcore from Germany.

Moribund Scum is a three piece, two guitarists and a drummer. The guitars are a tornado of buzzing noise with heavy riffs, at times only to slow down to go into a whirlwind of insanity and what can only be described as a tantrum of hate filled vocal screams.

I love this type of grindcore live, it's more hardcore punk based rather than metal. Not to say that the metal based stuff is bad, because I love stuff like Repulsion and Terrorizer. It's my favorite because it's noisier, they don't focus so much on production. It's all about blasting, heaviness, and speed.

This live album was just relentless and judging from the song titles there is some socio-political lyrical content, for instance songs like "Redneck Execution" shows hate towards your typical redneck assholes. "Into The Void" is almost a noisy sludge track with how heavy it begins just to suck you into a clusterfuck of grind. They cover an EoM song "Without Consent" and slay it!

I'd hate to say it, but I think I may be liking Moribund Scum a lot more than Government Power Abuse. Both are great bands. But Moribund Scum would have me destroying a venue if I saw this live. Get this now!

Album: TOAD - Rotten Tide - 2011

We always try and bring you unknown and different bands here at WRE. Stuff that normally would not get any recognition anywhere else. So I proudly present TOAD to you.

TOAD which stands for Take Over And Destroy is a 6 piece from Arizona. They have crafted a unique sound which can only really be described as rock n roll with black metal undertones, which is coined as black n roll. They e-mailed me with Rotten Tide, which is truly a unique E.P. in it has the heaviness of rock with the eerie atmosphere of black metal. The music borders some where between hard/heavy rock and hardcore with organs and intricate guitar work with black metal screaming vocals.

Usually whenever a band has any black metal influence I prefer for it to be on the raw side. TOAD didn't necessarily use the raw aspect but I still found myself rocking out to this anyway. It's really the perfect blend of post-hardcore rock and black metal. And they didn't retard it up with theatrics and over dramatization that a lot of modern black metal acts do.

This E.P. starts out with "Midnight Hunger", a very clean sounding black metal guitar riff, very atmospheric start to the album, which becomes shattered by the heaviness of another guitar and drums, and very wet sounding screaming. Very dark sounding, but very light at the same time, almost as if the atmosphere is battling during the song. It doesn't stop there either. This type of battle continues into the second track "Pale Nimbus" which has a sound clip of someone out of breathing, then goes into some pretty fast and black metal riffing, only to speed it up with the second guitarist and drummer blistering in over screams that would make lungs collapse. I really dig the echo effect they used on some parts of the vocals during that track. The third track "Embody The Ghost" is named almost perfectly because the entire song sounds like a haunting, especially the very beginning with the organ playing with guitar. This continues on with "Morning Disgust" My favorite track has to be the last one "Necrophatic Vatican" It's like Black Metal hardcore, with gang vocals and all. Very evil sounding.

I always love receiving stuff like this. It's just out of the norm and very different. If you're a fan of avant-garde or just simply anything done out of the norm with black metal TOAD will be for you. I'm really loving this E.P. It's an atmospheric masterpiece. Watch out for these guys, they got some big plans in the future!

Album: Agent Patogen - CONSECUENCES OF HUMAN NEGLIGENCE - 2011

This is another obscure, no information on the internet about them grindcore band from Romania. 10 tracks clocking in at just over 20 minutes. I couldn't even find out how many band members were in this band.

Upon first listen I was like what the fuck is this? Cookie Monster grindcore? The vocals seemed boring. There was guitar solos. Nothing made sense from the description in the e-mail. I'll admit I'm a grindcore snob, elitist, purist, whatever you want to call me. Whatever. But after quite a few listens this has really grown on me.

This isn't your typical brutal grindcore I suppose. There's like groove parts like porngrind, but the subject matter isn't porngrind. Some songs border on thrash even because of lack of blast beats. There's even guitar solos in some songs. I think it's even a drum machine or electronic drums too. I can't tell, like I said there's almost no information on this band online.

I mean I can kind of see how it's grindcore-esque but I'd classify this along the lines of metal punk really. Or at least call it avant-garde grindcore. The vocals are so over dramatic and ridiculous, that I actually dig them now, even though they can seem mundane at times. It's like a uber brutal death metal singer trying to sing in guttural screams. It actually has me cracking up a little bit.

The guitar work is fairly decent. Even the solo parts are really cool. The drums and guitar are drown out kind of by the vocals. The parts that are actually blast beats are really good.

Some tracks that really stand out to me are "Post Nuclear Civilization" it starts out blasting and crazy as fuck, then goes into an almost reggae type of guitar playing to a guitar solo. It's really interesting. "Sikness Planet" is pretty fast tempo'd and breaks out into a pretty wicked solo also. "Consecuences Of Human Negligence" starts out with a pretty cool drum intro and goes into total insanity, buzzing guitar, blast beats, and even...YEP! you guessed it another solo...just a very chaotic song.

This is by far one of the strangest projects ever submitted to be posted on the blog. But it's worth the listen, so check it out. This is our first Romanian band posted!

Album: C.R.A.C.K. - erspectivas Sombrias (outlook grim) - 2011

This band is living in a lot of obscurity. The only information I have found on them is that they are a Brazilian 4 piece, formed in 2010 that plays crusty grindcore. Their influences are Ratos de Porão and Napalm Death. This is their first release, which is pretty damn awesome for a freshman effort. It clocks in at 16:25 with 11 songs.

This is in the vein of a more metal type of grindcore. Which isn't necessarily my favorite but this is a pretty decent album. Chaotic, noisy, blastbeats out the ass. It's pretty much any grinders wet dream. Some songs start out slow and explode into insanity. Vocals are pretty much just raw screams, sometimes there is dual vocals trading off. The guitar is insane at certain points on this release, almost sounds like a bee buzzing.

Overall it's an excellent output for a first album, I can't wait to see what else these guys can do. My only gripe is at certain points the album gets slow during songs and I feel it lasts too long. Sometimes 10-20 seconds. Other than that it's as perfect of a grind album as it could possibly be. My favorite part is the vocals and drums. The guitar parts aren't all they're cracked(haha) up to be.

But don't let me decide for you, if you like old Napalm Death and crusty grind you'll probably really love this album. So get to downloading!

What happens when you take 4 pissed off anarcho musicians from Australia and throw them in a blender with instruments? You end up with Disease Process. A hurricane of noise that is inspired by 80's UK hardcore, raw crust and black metal. Should we even be surprised? It's like Australia is a grindcore goldmine for the past 15 years. Disease Process is no exception.

This reminds me of Warsore except more fucking insane. 8 songs clocking in at 12:05, "Thrown To The Wolves" begins with a 21 second yell over a barrage of d-beat blasting insanity and guitars that sound like possessed chainsaws from hell cutting down ugly trees. "Shallow Graves" picked right up between dual vocals fighting over nonstop blasting and riffs that destroy any coherent thoughts, until going into a blackened grind tirade before ending. Other notable tracks on this album "Martyr Blood" a perfect blend of hardcore and black metal vocals being transformed into an instant grindcore classic. If music were weapons Disease Process' self titled debut would be a nuclear missile, and you'd be fucking vaporized.

My only regret is that I didn't get to post this as soon as I received it. The only downside to this is that I'm impatient and am awaiting another release. I'll go and say it, best fucking grindcore album of 2011, hands down. Download this now!

This is one of those bands that genre confuses hipster and scenster kids into thinking they listen to a genre of music they don't really listen to. This is the type of band that gets confused as all sorts of shit such as made up genres of music like "mathcore", People will also call this "noisecore", "grindcore", even metalcore. It's really none of that. What we have here in a technical post-hardcore band that plays off time signatures and has an emphasis on dissonance. How all that other stuff got started I have no fucking clue. But I just laid down the truth.

I have a feeling this is also the type of band that has kids doing all that crazy ass annoying Kung-Fu shit at shows. I literally despise that sort of shit. Seen too many people hurt at shows over that crap. I only bring this up because this band has some pretty epic breakdowns. I can envision the moshing while listening to this.

Usually I don't dig this sort of stuff too much. Well not really at all. But it was submitted and I am listening to it with the least amount of bias as I can. Overall it's not really that bad of an album. If you like technical guitar playing, speed, screaming vocals, and heavy drumming you'll really probably like this.

As you can tell I never post any bands like this because it's not really my thing. I just really can't stand the guitar playing. The vocals are good, the drumming is awesome. I just can't stand that "dun dun dun dun deeneeneenee" guitar playing. Shit makes my skin crawl. That's not to say the guitarist is not talented. There are some riffs on this album that I think are awesome, they are just spaced out with a type of playing that I can't stand.

I can almost imagine this band being a badass grindcore band if they just had different guitar playing. If you're into technical hardcore, metalcore, or even the made up genre of "mathcore" you'll probably really love this album.

Album: YOUWRETCH - Selftitled E.P. - 2011

YOUWRETCH is a sludgecore band with ambient elements in the mix to create something totally incredible unique sound. They hail from Minneapolis and are just crushing with catchy hardcore melodies entwined in feedback and lung collapsing screams. If you're sometimes like me and wish sludge bands were more hardcore punk influenced than YOUWRETCH is going to make you extremely happy in your pants, then smash your boner with an audible shovel!

This is 4 songs clocking in at 9:13. There's not so much chaos on this E.P. That's not to say that the tempo is slow, because it's not, there is just more ambient sounds and intricate guitar work and at certain times feedback with screaming so intense even I started to think I was losing my voice. This is definitely not the typical sludge band.

I am actually really fond of this E.P. because it was something brand new to the sludge genre. There are so many clones and when a band like YOUWRETCH does something interesting and different it definitely gains much respect. Literally every song is worth checking out.

My only gripe with this release is that it's only 4 songs. It made me want an L.P. so badly. I love the intro on "The Rider" such gentle guitar playing almost hypnotic only to go into soul crushing heavy ambiance. If you're not listening to YOUWRETCH, then YOUABITCH. Go grab this now!

Album: Lord Green - Last Demo - 2011

Talk about extremely difficult to classify into one genre. This three piece from Illinois brought their fuckin' A-game for sure with this demo. This has everything I love about extreme music.

This so much reminded me of The Melvins on acid. At certain parts on this cassette I felt like I was on a roller coaster, it some how goes from sludge to punk with hardcore leanings to thrash to jam sessions all within minutes. I found myself so entranced in this release that I found it almost impossible to write a review on it. I just wanted to keep listening to this. It literally blew my mind. If you're into any type of stoner type of rock you'll fall in love with this cassette.

Certain thoughts that came to mind during listening to this is droning, buzzing, bizarre, stoner laced insanity, jam bands being raped by hardcore, marijuana induced psychotic episodes, fast tempo, grindcore on mushrooms, ecstacy, acid, and speed. This is just one of the most interesting cassettes I have ever listened to. Lord Green literally blew up genres with this release.

Some notable tracks on the release are "Higher Than God", starting out with a sound clip of people coughing and saying "Here ya go man" and another saying "aww it's fucking cached" then entering thundering bassline and drum love session molested by grinding guitars and screams. "Losing The Race" is bass driven, with punk drumming. The two instruments feed off of each other perfectly with unpromising screaming vocals. It makes the entire song catchy but chaotic at the same time. As a matter of fact the entire album is like that, so chaotic and catchy at the same time. Something like this seems almost impossible but they pulled it off.

The entire cassette is awesome. Something that should not be missed. Imagine 3 pissed off motivated stoners creating music and you have Lord Green's "Last Demo" This is definitely one of the best releases of 2011 so far. If you passed this up back in February when it came out I feel bad for you. What the fuck are you waiting for download this shit and get your mind blown!

Album: Per Capita - The Damage Done - 2011

Crusty Grind from Germany? What? Hell yeah bitch! There was definitely some damage done, to my brain. Cause it feels like ooze. I always get such an adrenaline rush when I listen to bands that just fucking don't believe in slow tempos. Per Capita is keeping the crust-grind tradition alive all the way in Munich Germany. They even cover "Wake Of Deception" by Dropdead, and slay it! These guys can't be bad at all.

There's not much Info on these guys. They have a myspace which is pretty much just their shows and how to purchase their merch. Their facebook offers a little more information. It's basically 5 dudes that started the band in 2008, had a couple of lineup changes, released this killer record, and been tearing shit up ever since in Europe with a relentless crust grind attack. Sounds pretty typical but the record is not.

It's pretty much your average subject matter for this genre which I have no qualms with, because they are also the same beliefs I cherish and uphold. That's a major plus. It's awesome that decades after crusty grind was started they still have amazing bands creating this music with an awesome message.

This is 11 songs clocking in at 17:20. Some notable tracks on the album are "The God Delusion" which is more hardcore sounding than grind, but I love the part that kind of quiets down and the vocalist screams "IT'S JUST THE GOD DELUSION" haha. I don't care how cheesy that sounds. It is bad ass in the song. "No White Supremacy" was another one that stuck out to me because it is a perfect blend of hardcore/crust/grind with like gang vocals too. Pretty damn sweet if you ask me.And of course the Dropdead cover is fucking sick as fuck. Check these dudes out. Also if they come to your city go see them live. I bet they fucking slay live.

Album: Capital Decay - Time To Get Angry - 2010

Capital Decay isn't your typical grindcore band. This is one person, played all the instruments. I can't tell if it's a drum machine or not. I think it may be. But it's not like one of those idiotic online grindcore bands, that put no effort into anything. This is different than that. Very different, give this a chance and you'll see. The intro was kind of boring, but if you can make it past that you will be pleasantly surprised.

There are so many different influences here. There's crust, noise, experimental, hardcore punk, metal, sludge, black metal, noise-core. It's actually a pretty good mix. There's a ton of feedback on this record, and it's sloppy. There are a few ingredients that I believe make grindcore good. Speed, sloppiness, blast beats, vocals that feel like their stroking your spinal chord with Brillo pad gloves, and feedback, lots and lots of fucking feedback! Capital Decay has all those ingredients and much more.

As I stated I feel the intro was kind of redundant but actually kind of mind fucks you because you're not expecting what comes next. There's a lot of soundclips used, but it actually blends well in each song. Sometimes they are at the beginning, sometimes in the middle. This album was kind of like a story being told in politics and socio-political science.

Some tracks that really stood out for me were "Life In A Box", "Revolution Song", which is the shortest anarchist type song I have ever heard clocking in at 0:01. "Police State" which is almost hip-hop-esque with it's rhyming scheme to punk drum beats with feedback and guitar in the background. Totally unexpected, but is actually a perfect sound. "Terrified" goes from grindcore into this bizarre noise soundscape, almost as if it was a grindcore band going power electronics. At first thought that sounds like it wouldn't mix but it does. "Frustration" is by far the creepiest song on the album beginning with an ambient touch right into an almost blackened punk approach to end the track. The entire album is very awesome, because it mixes so many different clashing genres of music to truly stick out amongst something different in the crust and grindcore genres.

If you're into grindcore, left politics, and general avant-garde noise insanity Capital Decay will surely end up becoming one of your favorite projects/bands. I can't wait until the next release. The only problem is I don't know if he'll ever be able to top this album! So go get your grind on with this!

Album: DISDRAMA - Demo - 2010

I know some people that hate all these dis-bands that end up becoming Discharge & Disclose clones. And at first you may think this is one of them, I sure as hell did. You're in for the nut kicking soul crush of a life time then. Not only is this not a d-beat/dis-band clone they fucking tear this shit the fuck up.

I got this e-mailed to me, and figured it was just some d-beat band. Just get that fucking idea out of your head. Upon downloading there wasn't really any info in English, it was all Polish, which is included in the download.

Upon further investigation there is one vocalist, which after you listen to this you will realize how bad ass that is. There's the creepiest intro with violin and guitar on this demo. This is probably the most atmospheric demo I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. Right from the start it's chaotic, gloomy, and desloste atmosphere created. The vocals on the first track vary from talking in Polish to screaming to more gutteral growls. Sometime the vocals border from typical Crust yelling to more Black metal and Death Metal sounding.

I'm not really sure about the subject matter of the songs. It doesn't really matter to me anyway. This is some of the best blackened crust I have ever heard. Poland has some of the best bands in the entire world. Every time a Polish band sends me something I'm always blown away by it. This was no different. I haven't found it necessary to stop listening to this demo for quite some time now.

Some notable tracks are "Zjadasz wlasny ogon" which is just utterly chaotic between the spazztic guitar rifffs and the drums feeding off of each other blended with screams that would make a banshee jealous it really stuck out on this demo to me.

Album: Eschaton - An Instrument of Darkness - 2010

Of course you guys remember Eschaton right? Well if you don't let me refresh your memory by going here. These guys really brought something special to metal with their bizarre and unique blend of metal. There's influences from Grindcore, Death metal, Black metal, Heavy Metal, Sludge, Doom, and even punk to form their own blend of avant garde progressive metal. There's not too many bands out right now that could pull off what Eschaton is and has been doing for quite sometime.

This E.P. is 13:31 and is only two songs. But the songs are so perfect, they really do smash genre boundaries with everything they release. I can't see any metalheads listening to this and disliking it. It's really an amazing E.P.

It's a musical journey, A desolate landscape painted by heavy despair laced metal and chilling screams. It's only two songs but I felt like I was listening to at least 7 or 8 different songs. It's really a great release. If you can manage to quit head banging long enough to click the download link I suggest you do that.

Album: Systemskifte - Demo 2009 - 2009

Systemskifte's Fredrik e-mailed me a while back with this. What we have here is an extremely left political crust band. The thing is I don't necessarily consider this crust. It verges on grindcore and powerviolence more so than crust i would say. This is not a bad thing by any means. It was kind of a kick in the face, because at points there's even reggae parts. It was kind of unique, never seen any crust/powerviolence/grind use reggae, not that I can recall anyway.

This had me so amped up. After a couple of listens I was rocking the fuck out to this. It clocks in at nine and a half minutes and fully mindfucked me. Like I said before on the fifth track "Olaga Intrang" it goes from blistering crusty grindcore into noisy reggae just to end with sloppy feedback. Which was kind of badass I must say. I like hearing new stuff like that. They pick that up and reverse it on the sixth track, reggae into blistering crust grind.

This entire album felt like a wall of noise raping a marching band after injecting them with amphetamines. The only time it really slows down any is during the reggae/intro parts/outros of songs. The guitars are grinding, the drums are blazing fast punk, encased in screaming vocals.

If you're into traditional crust/grind this will definitely be your cup of tea. Even with the interesting mellow parts this demo still slays. Anyone into extreme music should definitely check this out. I can't wait for an LP. It's awesome when bands demos are better than most bands regular releases. Now go download this in solidarity and burn down your local corporation.

As you may have noticed I am like over a year behind in updating, so I've really been trying to catch up. I'm hoping by the end of the month I will have everything that has been e-mailed to us posted with reviews. I have roughly about 18 e-mails to update with, and two snail mail cds I have to rip and post also. I'm aiming for 3-5 updates a day until this is completed. I don't really like rushing the reviews like this, but it has to be done.

Album: Vitam Et Mortem - Death Metal 666 (Invoking The End) - 2010

Vitam Et Mortem have made it crystal cllear with their third release, not only are they going to hand out evil laced Death Metal with touches of avant garde, they are here to crush anything Dogmatic in the process.

The direction of growth this band has taken on is brilliant. Another excellent output. Just like I said about their first album, these guys are a diamond amidst piles of coal when it comes to Death Metal. I can't even imagine these guys getting any better than they already are. And the fact that they are unsigned totally boggles my mind as much as their music.

I can't imagine these guys staying unsigned for long, they are some of the most technical, evil, and heavy Death Metal I have ever listened to. They managed to do all of these things without being cheesy. Keep an eye out for these dudes, I can't imagine them not getting signed or blowing up in the next few years.

Do not pass up on this album or the other three I have reviewed. They have managed to rejuvenate my interest in an entire genre of music in just three bone crunching musical journeys.

Album: Vitam Et Mortem - Commanding The Obscure Imperius - ???

It seems that if in this release Vitam Et Mortem wanted to mind fuck us a bit with their second release. Only similar to the first album in technical playing. They tend to have stepped up the pace with this in every area. They even brought a bone chilling element of evil with this, from the intro that sounds like some sort of ritual to the vocals, guitar solos, everything is just wicked as hell on this release!

This is the album that got me back into listening to Death Metal again. Perfect blend of speed, technical playing, and gutteral growling vocals. At times it seems like this goes straight into death-grind then enters into some bizarrely evil guitar solos, then back to just straight Death Metal, it really was quite a musical journey.

Still insanely underrated, they have totally revived my listening to Death Metal with this release, this will remain in heavy rotation for quite some time. Everything is perfect to me on this record. Album: Vitam Et Mortem - Life In Death - 2007

These dudes must not really know English that well or something because they wanted their stuff posted so bad they had a friend of theirs contact me asking me to put up their releases. I was kind of hesitant at first because I haven't really been digging Death Metal for quite some time. It just seemed to be lacking lately. The novelty of it all has gotten extremely stale also. I sure was in for a treat when I put this on.

This is their first release. Besides being extremely interesting for a modern Death Metal band, their skill is just amazing. I'm kind of reminded of a Morbid Angel that never is sloppy or sucky. It's a little difficult to really compare this to any other Death Metal I have heard. It's not that it's unique it's just technical and strange compared to modern Death Metal.

This didn't necessarily revive listening to Death Metal for me, but they sure as hell gave me hope for it as a genre of music. Maybe I'll be a little more open minded. This band is truly a gem in that genre of music and they are relatively unknown in the underground or overshadowed by uber slam death a-go-go.

If you are any type of fan of Death Metal from fanatic to avid listener I can't see you disliking this. It's really an incredible release, probably the best Death album of 2007. Even fans of metal in general will be impressed with this bands skill. Do yourself a favor and listen to this, you won't be disappointed.

Album: Suffering Mind - Death To False Grind 3" E.P. - 2010

This was my all time favorite E.P. to be released in 2010. I know what you're saying "man! It's only two songs!" But they were head imploding. spine crushing, ear fucking songs. I listened to this E.P. so much when it first came out, any time I'd get a headache or fart it was in blast beats. This shit grinded my central nervous system. True Story!

So if you're into grindcore and don't know this band, shame on you, ya fucking asshole. So basically Suffering Mind came out with the Hate Mankind 7" E.P. in 2008 and haven't stopped. Their entire discography is amazing so far and I will be posting it sometime soon.

Seriously you need to check this out. It will be one of the most classic grindcore E.P.s to have ever been pressed. It's dual vocals, screaming and gutteral trade off, chainsaw driven guitar, and blasturbation on the drums. For those of you wondering if Suffering Mind can do this on a LP, just be patient and listen to their self titled full length, and get your skull fucked. In the time you have spent reading my rambling you could have already listened to this in its entirety 5 times, so quit wasting time and get to getting your own elitist ass handed to you.

Album: The Doom - Echoes To Chaos - 2008

The Doom is like the early punk of doom metal bands, in the fact of simplicity. This was sent to me by e-mail from the band. There are a few reviews from metal elitists around on this album and it was reviewed mediocre overall.

The thing I don't understand is how it was reviewed so poorly, even though it embodies everything Doom Metal is. The only downside really is the albums own simplicity, and not even really. I spent a lot of time in life listening to 3 chord progression bands. So Echoes To Chaos' simplicity isn't something detrimental as far as I am concerned.

I would have liked the album to be longer, clocking in at 18 minutes with 6 songs,you could have easily doubled or tripled this album. Some tempo change probably wouldn't be a bad idea either. Those are my only real gripes with the album.

As far as Doom Metal goes, this is pretty much a decent demo or E.P. I really would like to see what these guys next output is like. There is a lot of potential for growth. They could really end up putting the nay sayers to rest with a solid output after this, if they are even still together that is.

Lets cut the crap, if you're a doom metal fanatic, this will be your cup of tea. Very despairing, so much so I have found it almost impossible to write anything positive for a review. Give this a listen and enter a world of unpromising despair. Be sure to take your prozac first, wouldn't want your parents chai latte colored walls to get blood on them.

Album: Projeckbabi - Demos - 2009/2010

Projekbabi is explosive d-beat. Raw just doesn't describe this. There's always everyone sucking off Discharge. They're so mediocre. Disclose crafted the genre into something chaotic and heavy.

You may be asking "What does Projekbabi have to do with Disclose?" Well it's complete Disclose worship d-beat from Jakarta. These guys influences are beer, weed, japanese hardcore, crust, and obviously Disclose!

Most worship bands are lame as hell. And considering they're a worship band in a third generation of d-beat worship bands it will be easy to dismiss these two demos. A very foolish decision my friends.

The demos are insane! Intense d-beat drumming, thundering distorted guitars, and screaming all blend into fury fueled animosity. This is almost noise-grind it's way too intense!

Erdem from Turkey's Nitro e-mailed me with this. If you like both hardcore punk and metal this will be right up your alley. I know what you're thinking this sounds like it could end up being an ironically NITRO records band. Trust me they're not. This is just a blend of hardcore with metal overtones.

The drumming is a precise, even technical blend of punk drumming. The guitars are that of palm muted thrash insanity or as I like to call it NA-palm muted. The vocals banshee screamed.

If you remember me posting The Dooshbags, they kind of remind me of them, except no sloppiness and way better production, and well they aren't singing about rape, booze, and hating everything. Okay so maybe they don't really remind me of The Dooshbags after all.

There are seriously times on this record where every genre of music has been covered from 70's inspired punk, oi, and hardcore, then ranges into thrash metal and heavy metal. This is a call to all metal punks. This one is definitely for you!

As for anyone else, this is going to be pretty much hit or miss. You'll either love it like I did or not. They reminded me of some of my favorite bands during listening to this. That is plus. They said it best in the e-mail "WE SOLD OUR SOULS FOR PUNK METAL", and it paid for itself. Dowload this now, and give your ears an orgasm.

What's up readers & followers?

So here's what's going on, as usual I am backed up with the blog thing. I'm going to try and catch it up. I have a lot of awesome stuff to upload from months and months ago.

The reason this is really going down is because I injured my right hand approximately 3 weeks ago. I broke the fifth metacarpal in such a way that I need to have a little hardware installed with surgery. I Basically have two screws in my hand indefinitely. This also means I am on a leave of absence from work.

On the bright side, this is indeed something good for you because it means there will be more regular updating here. It also means something new for the blog at least when I post, I will no longer keep this blog restricted to only certain genres. It never meant to be that way, nor was it intended by either I or Andy. We'll always try and keep it underground or at least underrated. What do we have here? Colorado based No Thought. This is supposedly just two dudes. A guitarist and drummer, sharing vocal duties. From what I have read they are straightedge. That doesn't bother me too much since I got hammered from this release. After a couple of listens I was stoked! FINALLY a just pure grindcore release.

I'm Done! was kept in the vein of traditional grindcore. The entire album clocks in over just 6 and a half minutes in just 8 songs. Do the math. This is heavy, fast, and loud. They pretty much keep it on the noisier/hardcore side of grindcore. So this may not go over too well for the average metal based grinder. No Thought is reviving an ideal that we haven't seen sometime in grind. They managed to belt out some truly chaotic, feedback laced, heavy distorted grindcore, think of Warsore while listening to this. I'm sometimes overwhelmed that there's bands doing this sort of stuff still, and didn't manage to compromise anything by keeping it free from gore or porn.

Most noise-grinders will really appreciate this output. Most people reviewing this would probably just say that this is generic grindcore, but it is really more than that. This is part of the grindcore/noise-grind revival I've been hoping for.

We have an album here that did not waste their time trying to be brutal. No pitchshifted bullshit vocals or gutteral growls here, just raw screaming. This is just fast, heavy, hardcore fueled grinding noise. The guitar playing is just a buzzsaw-clusterfuck with intermissions of feedback. The drums keep to a hardcore/fastcore style of drumming that seizures in and out of blast beats.

This album was quite the treat. Being inspired by old school Death metal, powerviolence, and hardcore, these guys put out a nearly perfect grindcore release everything from hand drawn cover to the sound, even the length of the songs is perfect. And they didn't even call it something like "superbr00tuhl-heavy-death-sxe-clownxsnuff-dildo-assfuckporn-violence" or "mincecore", They just called it grindcore and kept it grindcore. So quit reading my bullshit and check this the fuck out.

This album is pretty bad ass because it has a very old school HC punk influence with heavy crust vocals, two things that just go awesome together, it's almost like power violence. It was made by Luis from Chile, it's a one-man band just like his other project Condenado A Muerte. He records all the instruments, puts the drums on a recording and then plays guitar and sings live over it. I'd rather get a drummer lol, but his albums are sick, if you've heard Condenado A Muerte, which I heavily recommend, this has the same type of singing but the music is more old school.

Abserdo is a pretty sick ass Thrash/Crossover band from Philly and we received this 7" from them, which is the follow up to their first album. I gotta say this is definitely an awesome metal album and it was well put together, but other than just thrash it's got other metal elements in it too, the lyrics are typical to the Thrash genre, so a bit silly, crazy, etc. But the music definitely holds up and it's an album worth checking out. Also, although they sound nothing like them, their cover art is sort of reminiscent of Rudimentary Peni, definitely some awesome cover art, I totally did not expect it for this type of album.

This band used to be called December's Cold Winter, and their 2008 album Ablaze All Shrines is one of my favorite albums ever, it was a fucking flawless mix of Black and Death Metal with melodic post-metal influences, I never wrote a review for it so I'd like to invite you to download that shit, it's an awesome album. The band switched their name and changed their style a bit more towards pure Death Metal, but they still sound like DCW so this album is fucking amazing, pretty long songs, 4-7min each, lots of different parts, there's still an influence of melodic Black Metal and Post-Metal so it makes this album very listenable, not as easy to get into as Ablaze All Shrines but definitely a good follow-up, especially since they went towards being heavier.

This is a new feature of the blog, interviews with bands!, the first band up is Absolutist from Scotland, who play fucking awesome modern Crust/HC.

-When did the band start and how did it happen?

The band started in September 2010, after I had spent a year away from music, studying and traveling in America and had an urge to create a straight up, aggressive and to the point band with minimal members. We have found that with this stripped back 3 piece assembly things are more to the point and akin to our direction

-What is the scene like in your town, size, popularity, importance?

Considering that none of us our actually from Scotland (we're all just studying here) we can't speak to much of the scene but what we have seen so far has been great. Some great DIY shows and an eclectic range of bands. We recently finished a short Irish(were two of us are from) tour and the scene over there especially in Galway is fantastic.

-What are your biggest influences for your work?

I started the band for a want to write short aggressive songs with straight up lyrics without the need for a veil of mystery around the lyrics, I was sick of listening to bands write songs without any intent or lyrical depth and going for the simply overused anti religious rhetoric. If your going to write songs about the church, say what you NEED to say rather than leaving it to the imagination.

With regards to musical influences it can range from Nasum to Wolfbrigade and Magrudergrind to Deathspell Omega

-Do you think there is a hidden hand that controls the world from behind the curtain?

Not in the slightest. The decisions we make and lead as humans and the actions of the enviroments around us decide what will inevitably happen

-What are your thoughts on mainstream media and the product it sells compared to the music we create in underground scenes?

I think they both lend themselves to different things. The music/products sold in the underground have an honesty about it due to its nature, It's not for everyone and the people who create these things try hard to get their expression out there and are unwilling to compromise due to the close connection to their art(and rightly so)

The mainstream media continues and will always provide to a major percentage of the world, who am I to stop one person from altering the life choice they make with regards to their choices.

Without sounding clichéd the underground will never die, due to the will to push out the singular expression of a single person. Multiply this by the number of people who strive to be part of the underground with their singular expression, upon other people who accept new things and there is the reason(to me) why the underground has continued and will always survive

-Have you found blogs/internet to be helpful in spreading your band's music?

Blogs have been nothing but supportive to us, helping us disperse our music to a number of people that we single handidly could not do ourselves.

-What is the main message behind Absolutist?

I think the band is too young in itself to have one universal message(we probably never will). There are things to be read in our lyrics...but to be honest when people come to our show and have a great time its up to them to go and read whats written down....not everyone wants a message and we will NOT preach any message at shows. We would rather they just enjoy the music if anything.

-Would you consider the band's lyrics or the band's music to be more important?

Music most definitely. Then secondly the delivery of the lyrics. This is really important to us, and we utilize the dual delivery a lot to keep it interesting.

Without a good song there is no vessel to carry lyrics. After that as written previously the listener can make the choice to go a little deeper within the songs via the lyrics.

-Do you feel a need to awaken people?

No. If a person sees something through us that is enlightening then we absolutely enforce that but we will make no effort to ''awaken'' people.

-When did you first get into punk and what did you like before it?

For me it was a journey through finding music to vessel a certain feeling through. For this particular feeling I have found punk/hardcore to be the one medium still today that carries the aggressive streak that other forms of music have simply failed to do. The urgency within the music is essential for me personally. However as can be seen from our music we have a wide range of influences beyond simply punk.

Essentially for me there is only two things in music. Good, or bad.

-It's been a pleasure.

We'll be touring Norway, Finland and Sweden September 7th to the 17th 2011, Europe April 2012 and America summer 2012. New record this coming summer 2011 with UK shows in June!

This is a fucking awesome new band from Costa Rica, they play heavy grindy Crust with combination of low and high pitch growling, I gotta say this album took me by surprise, I did not expect it to be as bad ass, it's much more complex than most grind albums, the style is actually very varied, because although very short it has lots of different parts, HC breakdowns, double-bass, fast thrashy parts, so it's much more than just grind, it's a bad ass combinations of styles, the recording is raw as fuckk(this album is 6mb!!), it really came out awesome, this is definitely one of the best latin american bands I've heard lately.

This is a very interesting album that was submitted to the blog, 413's musical style is very broad so it can't be categorized easily, according to its creator "Once again, it’s been recorded without any kind of amplifiers, with no guitars, and lacking the need of entering a studio… just with an electric bass and the willing and happiness of creating", however the melodies created are very complex, there's other instruments in the background a lot of times, so it's very ambiental, a lot of excellent post-production work must've been done, the music transcends punk's musical horizons, at times even going towards the jazzy/funky side of things on some songs, it's much more contemporary than anything posted so far, and it doesn't stay on the darker/minor chord style that encompasses our great library of music, so whether you think that's a good thing or not you might like this album a lot or not, I must say, I like it, because it manages to be a good mix of the music I'm used to while going outside the box, I gotta give props to its creator for having creativity, also that's not to say this isn't a crust album, some of the songs are straight up crust with screaming vocals and distortion, while others are more ambiental and instrumental similar to neo-crust or post-hc, so it's a very varied album, also a concept album with lyrics that tell a story sequentially, I'm posting their debut work aswell.

I'll admit I'm such an asshole, even though I try not to be. Jason e-mailed me this a while back. I ended up not listening to this partly because of laziness and partly because I got a full plate in life right now. Talk about not judging a book by it's cover. I'll admit the name is a little cheesy, but they thanked Akkolyte in the linear notes, so I suspected that these guys couldn't suck that much. I was in for a 16 minute treat.

The breakdown is this, this is crusty d-beat grindcore, most people will call this "d-beat" or "crust". I would just call it crust, but it instantly reminded me of that early 90's crusty grind. I instantly thought about Doom 3 songs into this. Now before you bitch and be like "oh just a doom clone?!?!?! Fuck that!" hear me out. There are a few things that make this differ from Doom. First of all, they use some incredible guitar solos. There's a lot more talent in Life Erased. Secondly I think Life Erased has better lyrics. Doom has shitty lyrics, awesome message, just terrible way of representing them. Life Erased managed to have an awesome message and great lyrics to boot.

These guys run a DIY venue called The Phoenix Project. I have heard of this place from bands in Florida that have played there. It must be Texas' time to shine here as far as the punk, hardcore, grind, and metal scenes go because this is like the 20th band from Texas that has gave me a braingasm with a demo. This literally couldn't get any better. Send this right to the pressing plant for an incredible 7" In all honesty I can't wait for the LP to come out. Anyway that's my opinions on this album and I'm sticking to them.

Absolutely fucking amazing album, beautifully melodic, combining almost etheral sounds with sludgy heaviness that drags on and on and heavy piercing vocals, the combination is beautiful, from mellow ambient and drone sounds to sludge, and most amazingly, this is a one-man band, so hats off to the dude who not only created this and was able to play all those instruments and sing on it, but also create all those awesome ambiental sounds, it came out mad tight, I like to make one-man bands too so I like this a lot, much recommended.

This is a fucking sickk ass album, it got sent in about 5 months ago(mil disculpas a la banda!), but I just now get to listen to it, this is reminiscent of so many amazing Epic Crust bands from Spain, Marasme hail from Palma, Spain, and this is their debut album, the songs are very long and full of beautiful post-HC clean interludes mixed with metallic epic crust, if you like Fall of Efrafa and bands like it, this would be right up your alley, definitely an awesome album, love to hear stuff like this, I'm glad it got sent in, it's a must-have.

2 Year Anniversary and a few words...

In april of 2009 my homeboy Wayne and I decided to start this site, because of some things that happened in our lives, we wanted to find an outlet to speak out against religion and the system, we've always wanted to make a record label but the most immediate and accessible thing was to create a music blog, so this blog was started. From day one we wanted to it to be a high quality site, so we came up with a format and stuck to it, and uploaded hundreds, or probably thousands of albums, I had a blast re-designing the graphics of the blog over and over and we gathered a decent number of visits and managed to spread some extremely obscure music.

Through all of 2009 I uploaded hundreds of albums of all genres within political punk, trying to build up our collection to include bands from as many places as possible, as I had always been amazed at the fact that radicals came out of so many places and created similar underground scenes, I had been into punk my whole life, being part of local scenes, both in latin america, where I was originally from, and in the US where I unfortunately emigrated to, I saw tons of bands, and made my own bands, even dressed punk and crust when I was younger, but when 2010 rolled around some things changed in my life, I found myself changing a lot, and I was just not into punk that much anymore, suddenly months went by and I hadn't downloaded, or even listened to anything, much less posted albums on the blog.

I could never get back into it like before, but I found a new type of music that I loved, radical hip hop, which expressed the same anti-systematic messages from punk but in a more street way, so I started getting into that and I found a good number of new albums and artists, some of which I've put on mixtapes, and there's a lot of albums I'm planning on posting. I've also always wanted to complement the blog with important materials, whether it be videos or text, so I'm thinking of a few things like that to post.

But that brings me to my next point, I'm looking for somebody to start posting punk albums on the blog again, someone that's kept up with the crust scene and is up to date on all the latest albums and evolutions of the genre, someone that could deal with some simple html formatting, and that would be down to post albums on the blog, as we've sort of fell behind with the scene, Wayne is still into punk but he's mad busy with real life, and I would like the blog to recover the rhythm we had at first, with frequent posts and lots of new and classic albums, if anybody's interested send an email to wherereligionends@gmail.com.

I've been thinking of ways to update the blog with useful information other than music, there's a myriad of topics I would like to get into, so I'll start with this, a crucial event in our timeline, the events of September 11, 2001. Firstly I would like to say it was a massive montage that included full-blown media participation, as well as participation from every other government agency who all-most without knowing-, conspired to carry out this massive genocide ritual for Lucifer on a symbolic date, there was a fantasy story involving terrorists, hijackings, patriotic heroism, and more, was fed to the masses in order to explain the false-flag event and harbor public support for an anti-islamic local war, an invasion of Iraq to steal a stargate and more. To avoid controversy I won't say more than that in regards to that, but the important thing is, NONE of what I said relates to the video, so if you agree with it or not, it doesn't matter, the video deals with something entirely different and entirely more sinister:

There wasn't any planes on 9/11.

This video deals nothing with the backstory, the politics, the motives, or the conspiracies behind 9/11, this video is only a full-blown scientific and visual analysis of all footage provided from the mainstream media, as well as so-called "eye-witness" videos, often frame-by-frame and utilizing video editing tools to create reference points and cross-reference footage, the results are fucking MIND-BLOWING, to put it simply. they fucked up big time on a lot of the montages, the planes were inserted in real-time by the national TV stations that were chosen to broadcast the event, this led to a number of errors, inconsistencies, 'cue' signals showing up on all channels seconds before the planes, all kinds of perspective errors and editing errors in regards to the "planes" themselves, it goes as far as to the point of them using the same sound elements, backdrops and 2d images of planes both in mainstream news channels footage, and in "raw" eye-witnesses videos that stayed for posterity to simulate an event and were shown to the entire world over and over to traumatize.

All I can say is, if you haven't made up your mind on 9/11 PLEASE watch this.

Well I'm officially finished with school. So I have no more excuses for not updating this blog until I find a job. Ha ha. I have a lot of catching up to do. I roughly have about a months worth of posts all lined up from the last six months of recieving e-mails about posting albums, so we should see a pretty solid amount of updates. Album: Six Brew Bantha - Descent Into Nothing - 2010

I had the pleasure of running into this by way of a forum that I am a part of where no one likes me. Literally. ha ha. But I still find some decent shit. Some not so great stuff also. I'm sick and tired of wasting my time to check out some band and it's either one of two things a dime a dozen band of said genre, with no originality or some crappy fruity loops piece of shit project that was thrown together in literally 5 minutes (this is not cool unless you're making noise core, and sometimes not even then too.)

Well with that being said, Six Brew Bantha was a breath of fresh air in the staleness that grindcore and powerviolence have been for the last 10 years or so. Descent Into Nothing is not only an album but a journey. From the opening feedback to the ending noise ensemble.

This album clocks in at roughly 12 minutes. If I had to describe this album, I'd say imagine a more punk influenced grindcore band taking a chainsaw to a sludgy powerviolence band and Six Brew Bantha would be the end result. We have an awesome mix of many different genres of music. I would classify this mostly as grindcore though with influences from sludge, crust, powerviolence, punk, hardcore, and crust. If you're more into metal sounding grind you may or may not like this.

Some of the more notable tracks on the album that really capture the true feel of this album are "Brought Up Bitter", "Invisible Ventriloquist", and "Will Of The Sane." That is not to say that the entire album is not good. Because it's going to be some one of the most intense 12 minutes of your insignificant lives.

In my opinion this was in the top 10 best releases of 2010. If you missed this then I pity you for missing such an excellent release. We saw an awesome resurgence of grind last year, so hopefully that pours out into this year too. Anyway, check this out, show this band some love, and get your ass handed to you.

If you're not familiar with these guys, it's a shame because this is probably one of the, if not the best punk Germany had to offer in the mid 80's. The music doesn't really make this standout for me as much as the vocals. It's like typical 80's punk being yelped over by a banshee that is hammered and smoked too many cigarettes. Personally this type of sloppy 80's punk where it is not either too political or anti-religious will always have a place in my heart. Specifically "Helden" really stands out for me. I really love listening to that track. Anyway since I have came across this band I haven't found much besides their releases online. If you have more information send it my way.

Nonsense - Propast - 2010

So anyway I'm not sure if this is going to work. I'm piggybacking off someone else's internet right now. Some life circumstances have left me pretty much without the internet for the time being. If it's not one thing it's another I tell ya! Anyway Everything is good, if this works I will try to post more, or get to a library or something since there is one down the street from my house. So what do you say we get to the review?

This starts out pretty slow. Something of an intro I suppose. Then we literally get strapped in for a trip back to the late 80's/early 90's hardcore punk scene. If you ever wanted to know what the Croatian scene was like during those times, judging from the bands I have heard, Nonsense pretty much sums it up. The songs pretty much stay at a mid-paced punk and fast-paced hardcore. This band truly took the D.I.Y. values from the 80's and transcribed it in 2010.

This is a fairly solid release. Not as raw as I usually like it to be but the other outside influences like powerviolence and black metal make up for it. For the most part the vocals are sang either like your typical powerviolence band talked really fast, or sang like your typical 80's punk band except during the chorus where two vocalists switch off. It's actually a really perfect balance of music and vocals. This is a perfect release for anyone that is a fan of punk and has managed to get past listening to ONLY pop punk.

I found this album on repeat for quite sometime when it was sent to me. That's saying a lot coming from a guy that has some sort of musical A.D.H.D. Although at some spots it seemed a little redundant they don't last long enough for me to actually click next on any song. So check this out. Some of Croatia's finest!

Okay, so here's the deal. As anyone that's been following the blog since its inception has realized I have only been posting when I have break from school. I have one final left and then I officially have one term left at school, then there shall be more regular posting than it has been for the last year or so. So after January 25 shit will be more stable and less sporadic. I have a shit load of stuff to post so just be patient.

I realized a couple of weeks ago that blogger has a comment tab when I log in, so I was looking through them, and came across two comments on the Fuck Finger post. Someone claimed that .wma was a weird file type and someone else agreed and said this material was rare. Well I don't necessarily agree with that .wma files are a strange file type, but I do agree with that Fuck Finger since they released one tape 8 years ago is pretty hard to come by. Anyway, I took the liberty to convert the .wma files to .mp3 and re-uploaded it.

I did this primarily because Fuck Finger should be heard by everyone. They are one of my favorite Polish bands. They encompass every view and message we support here at WRE. And primarily if you're one of those "dude women can't play as good as guys" prepare to get ass raped by this release. This is four pissed off ladies that play an awesome blend of crusty fastcore. If you support sexism, don't even bother with this, you will probably hate it, and it sucks that you still have that frame of mind.

The truth behind the matter Trowa is I have indeed read the bible from to cover to cover multiple times. In it's entirety. I was raised Catholic and later nondenominational christian until I was 20. I have even completed two years of bible school. I'm not afraid of a book, nor am I afraid of any of the claims in it. Through further study, I have found christianity has just stolen their ideas from ancient civilizations and their beliefs, such as the Egyptians. How can you explain that? The Egyptians have almost the same exact story, but 4000 years before the christians, the only differences are minor details and name changes. My question to you is how can you firmly ignore this historical fact? How can you blind yourself with this?

Trowa, I don't need a book full of fear, hatred, genocide, slavery, class struggle, murder, rape, incest, intolerance, injustice, cruelty, xenophobia, misogyny, homophobia, and general nihilism amongst many other traits that I feel are terrible and just plain garbage disguised as "love" to make the right choices in life. Album: Weakling - Dead As Dreams - 2000

So pretty much I uploaded a shit load of albums a while back and totally forgot them until recently. This happens to be one of the many albums that was long forgotten. It's a shame too because this is an awesome band and album. But it will no longer be hidden in the darkness of mediafire any longer!

So Weakling was probably one of the most unique United States Black Metal bands. There is not really too much out there about them. I think their only output was this and two demos that lacked any vocals.

This is one of the many stories of awesome bands that release one really badass album, disappear, form a couple of even lesser known bands, and have some uber kvlt following world wide, and are generally accepted world wide in the rest of the black metal scenes because of how awesome they were.

Fenriz of Darkthrone supposedly called this album a "masterpiece" which probably had Black metal & metal punk kids sucking off the devil in order to obtain a copy of this album.

It may well be a masterpiece. It is some of the most progressive black metal I have ever encountered. I don't know if my next statement will do this justice or earn me a cross burned in my yard. But this is what I would imagine Tool playing black metal to sound like. They definitely brought something new to black metal.

It sucks when bands create interesting music like this and break up. I often find myself asking how the fuck that sort of thing happens.

Either way, if you have the attention span to withstand these songs, and want to hear something different offered to black metal then download this album. If you have ADD I don't see you getting through a single track on this album. TAKE your ritalin and chill out. Enjoy this "masterpiece".

In my opinion grindcore has not had any awesome bands or records since easily 2001. Keep in mind that this is the opinion of a grindcore elitist. All of the sudden this band out of Texas blows shit up, then gridlink raised the bar on how explosive grindcore SHOULD be. Even my longest hating stance for a band Agathocles belted out an awesome record in 2008. What the fuck is going on here?

I have no idea but this band is full of energy, you need not look past a live performance to see this:

Ask yourself one question: When was the last time you saw this type of excitement at a show? I'm going to take a republican stance on that question and answer with "I cannot recall..." Anyway enjoy these albums...

Anyway, some stuff to look forward to: An instrumental metal band called Guilty As Sin, it's pretty fucking sweet, especially if you're really into music and not so much into lyrics. The croatian Nonsense's newest release "Propast". kktz, the guy who does gruuthaagy, is in this band. Trust me it's some awesome stuff!

Also, I don't mind if you use any of the download links of stuff I upload to mediafire. As a matter of fact I encourage that you do this, spread around the music. It would be cool if you linked the blog if you do so. But I'm not going to be an uptight prick about it. I see some bloggers out there get insane about this stuff. They call it "stealing links", I call it spreading the message. If you still feel funny about it, don't worry you can always just download it and upload it yourself. I'm cool with that too. It's about spreading the message of the music and enjoying it, not being the only one who posts a particular record, or scans of an album. I mean seriously, you uploaded it to the internet, you really expect for you to be the only one who has access to it? I just wanted to be clear on this. Sawchuk - Miserable E.P. - 2010

When i got the e-mail from this band asking me to post their E.P. I immediately went to the myspace. In their info it says they're named after some guy named Terry Sawchuk. I had no idea who the fuck that was, so I clicked the link and was immediately sent to a wikipedia page. Supposedly it was some super star goalie that played 20 seasons in the NHL between 1959 - 1979. I guess I should get more up-to-date on hockey. Might I add, this fucking guy lead me to wasting 3 hours between writing this reading about hockey on wikipedia and watch videos on youtube.

I guess it would be simple just to say this band plays hardcore. It is so much more than that. At times during this rather short E.P. I feel that there is moments of fastcore/power violence and lapses of sludgy feedback. This E.P. is a burst of pissed off-no holds barred-angry energy. You almost get the feel that the E.P. is titled perfectly. Besides the intensity, heaviness, and general speed of the instruments and the screams being belted out as quickly as the instruments being played there is the general theme of desperate misery, especially in the lyrics.

Miserable has been on repeat pretty much nonstop for a couple of days now. Most E.P.'s you end up getting usually have one song that you don't like. This definitely is not the case with release. I'm almost pissed off that there is only three songs. If this is any indication of what a full length will be count me in, I will have to end up obtaining that.

I don't see anyone disliking this album too much unless you're some douche chugging elitist. Even then I don't see you disliking this. The drumming is pretty insane on this E.P. and between the grinding guitars and the vocal rape that will be happening to your ears it's pretty fucking awesome. I've listened to this E.P. so much I actually became a top listener on last.fm

Do yourself a favor, don't miss this. This is just straight up hardcore being belted out. I look forward to seeing what else these guys end up releasing. Being the power violence connoisseur that I am there is definitely power violence undertones in this E.P. There's actually some older and nu-hardcore influence also. It makes for quite the mixture. The tempo changes on the E.P. are refreshing and will keep your attention with the feedback and screaming.

Seriously, if you dislike this album, just give up listening to hardcore because you suck. I'm just partially serious...

Muk - Sample Cd - 2010

Anyone that has followed this blog since it's inception has seen that I never post porngrind and goregrind. Now there's a reason for this. It is not because I dislike the genres in their entirety. I think a member that posts on a forum I moderate put it pretty perfectly.

"I like myself some goregrind here and there, mostly for shits and giggles. But for the most part, I still prefer more mature and serious lyrical content and approach, those usually pertaining to a/political and anarcho punk grind. Just being shocking with an overindulgence of forensic semantics gets boring after so long. But those that actually practice what they preach is so much more inspirational to listen to personally, in both their art and action."

This is the best explanation I have seen towards the politically correct vs. non-politically correct argument I read about grindcore on forums. Don't get me wrong, there's a couple of goregrind bands that I like to rock every once in a while. Quite frankly it is insanely difficult to amaze me with a drum machine gore/porn grind band. Hell . . . I don't even like agoraphobic nosebleed. Yeah I know heresy!

When it comes to Muk. . . Well, lets just say if you're the average run of the mill gore/porn grind fan, I'm sure you will probably find the song titles some-what humorous. The drum programming sounds all right in some parts of the songs, but then will rapidly go into this terrible sounding machine gun drum roll, which I find is common in a lot of drum machine grind. Personally I think it sounds like shit. The vocals aren't extremely over dramatic like a lot of porn/gore which is a definite plus/minus depending on which gore/porn grind bands you like. I dug the vocals. The saving grace on all of the tracks is the guitar and bass.

In all honesty this did not do it for me, strictly because the drum programming was literally annoying. It almost hurt to hear some pretty decent vocals and guitar be slaughtered by subpar drum programming. The thing is there is hope. I see a lot of potential with these guys. I think if there was a little more work done with the drum programming that this could be a solid output. I wish I could see these guys do just straight up grind with a real drummer, I'm sure that would be pretty fucking awesome.

If you're a goregrind fanatic, you'll probably read this, download, listen, then call me a pretentious dick. Which to some extent I guess I could be. If you're not really into gore/porngrind or hate drum machine bands, then you'll probably leave this one alone. I was able to listen to this release on repeat merely just for the vocals and guitar riffs, and block out the drum programming which made it bearable to have on repeat while multitasking.

Kastasyde - Poisoned, Pissed Off, And Lied To - 2010

At first Kastasyde's Poisoned, Pissed Off, And Lied To did not jump out at as anything super special during the first play. But like most albums and bands I am unfamiliar with I have to give it quite a few listens. And slowly it has grown on me.

The first thing that is apparent is that this band is full of talent. Between the crunching guitars, bass, and screaming vocals there's some fairly intricate drum work going on.

There is some huge anti-religious undertone on this album which is awesome, particularly towards christianity. The lyrics aren't your typical "Jesus sucks" lyrics either. They are well thought out and rather poetic. For instance the lyrics to "Devine Evil" . . .

"Throw your bible away stop paying your preachers bill
Stop paying for your own slavery stop praying
Creation is a lie that will never get lost in the numbers

After the fifth or six time listening to this album in full I was full on headbanging and screaming along. The album starts out with the haunting feedback of "True Agony" and begins to set you up on a dire straits of pissed off aggression towards all that is fucked up in this world. Possibly my favorite tune on the entire album "Devine Evil" It starts off with crunching grinding guitars and blazing fast drumming. This tune has excellent lyrics, guitar riffs, and during the chorus it goes into a rhythmic funk were the bass, guitar, drums are matched perfectly and then back into chaotic screaming over the intensity of the music again. Other notable tracks on the album are "Beyond Repair" and "Trainwreck". I don't think an album has been so perfectly named before. You definitely don't want to be rocking this album during a time of extreme road rage especially surrounded by drivers that have those "jesus fish" on their cars you might just fucking run them off the road. Which in all honesty you'd be doing us all a favor anyway. On second thought you do want to be listening to this on the highway with road rage.

I wish there was this much energy at shows where I live from both the band and the crowd. That's pretty awesome! I was beginning to think that people did not move around at shows anymore.

This is an excellent album both musically and lyrically. It's a little different from what I usually post, the thing is the message remains the same! I don't see anyone that's a fan of metal disliking this album too much, even if it's for the fact that the band is talented. Which I doubt that will be the only reason anyway. Embalmed Alive - Vociferous E.P. - 2004

Martin had posted about this E.P. on a forum I moderate(yeah I know letting me moderate anything is a fucking crazy idea) I never got to listen to the full E.P. just four songs off the myspace. For some reason I felt they sounded a little metalcore-ish. Today I woke up and figured I'd update the blog with the E.P. he had e-mailed me with. I played it and I could not figure out why I really thought that. Besides the second and third tracks.

Now before you "purist" grinders start mouthing off with bullshit like "I hate drum machine grind" and all of that bullshit hear me out. First of all, the drum programming is pretty well done, and besides certain parts on some songs it is fairly difficult to tell. Secondly, they do play live with a "real drummer" So get your panties out of a wad. I usually dislike drum machine grind too.

Embalmed Alive's "Vociferous E.P." is a blistering, mangled, fusion of grindcore and sludge with a bit of metalcore mixed in too create a pretty interesting soundscape of insanity that sometimes surpasses into momentary lapses of sludgy metalcore that abruptly ends with torture growls and screeches being spat out over all of the chaos.

The longest song on the album is a Fear Factory cover of "Crash Test" which in my opinion they managed to make sound like an early 80's death metal song. Which is pretty cool. Not that I dislike Fear Factory or anything but it is indeed interesting. Some more notable tracks on the E.P. for me are "Cowards" which begins with some sludgy feedback and ultimately sounds like it could be a Dystopia tune. "Subhuman" is 0:14 of absolute chaos. If you like grindcore and Star Trek, I'm sure "Attack Of The Romulans" will be right up your alley also.(I bet most people wouldn't get that reference, but not I. I'm a geek also. Hah!) The album ends with "Decide Or Die" which I think was a really strong way to end the E.P.

The first three songs on the album are a bit on the metalcore side of the fence, well I should say the second and third track, the saving grace behind them is that they are not really long enough for a "dance-by-myself-ninja-moves-flail-like-a-wingless-pelican-with-no-mobility" mosh pit can't break out. Not an extremely stupid one anyway. And the vocals are pretty awesome. The next eight songs is what really made the album for me. I'm sure live it sounds a lot better too. But the E.P. is not bad, especially if you're not a musically prejudice asshole like I am.(HAHA)

Anyway, give this a shot, especially if you're a fan of metal, grind, and hardcore. You probably will not be disappointed. And well if you are, listen to track number two and do what the title says and "Kill Yourself"

On With Life - Birds Of Prey - 2010

Only the second band from Austria posted here, maybe we're becoming popular in Austria? ha ha. I doubt that. But one thing that is becoming popular with me is the Austrian music scenes. It is funny how you never hear about these bands until they e-mail you or someone else shows them to you.

I won't lie I am such an asshole when it comes to new music. I am judgmental as fuck, and usually if you don't have a name that catches my eye or an interesting name my defenses go up and I usually clump you in to a group of bands that I think you play the same music as. I admit this is totally ignorant and sucks of me. I know I should be more open minded on the issue and I try to be. On the other hand at least I'm honest.

Anyway the point of all that is, I could have easily done that with On With Life. In my eyes it's not a particularly awesome name, but I took a chance anyway. I think what made me give the album a chance is I really like birds and the album cover has an owl(On With Life, very clever guys), so I thought to myself "how can a band fuck up an owl and make it suck?" They CAN'T thats how.

After the first track, I automatically thought to myself the vocalist sounds like a more ballistic version of Regan Youth's Dave Insurgent. Which definitely goes over well with me considering he was one of my favorite punk vocalist before his untimely death. The music follows no typical style of hardcore. I hear various styles from the 80's, thrashcore, powerviolence, and punk influences in the music. Another great plus.

Birds Of Prey is just straight up hardcore. The album kept my attention for the first five tracks with a nice fusion of the above genres. All the sudden "The Light In Sight" came on and is pretty much the tourettes outburst on the album. I dunno if it's like the band's Infest tribute or what, but that shit piledrived my mind into a panic. In some ways I wish the entire album was representative of that song just to see if they could belt out 20-30 minutes of absolute chaos. The album holds up, usually don't find too many newer hardcore bands that are GOOD. There's a good energy in this album, and if you ever see them live you could easily sing along, especially with their chanting parts in the vocals on various songs. I'm sure this is better represented in their live performances than it is recorded.

A couple of my favorite tracks from the album are "Disease", "Money", "The Light In Sight", and "Break The Cycle" This is a solid output in my opinion. If you're a fan of hardcore I don't see you disliking On With Life. And if you do dislike them, shut the fuck, make sure your socks are short enough, your hat is flat brimmed, and you're rocking your cut off khakis and go back to listening to Hatebreed while you practice ninja moves, you loser.

Funeral In Heaven - Shaanthikarma Live EP - 2010

When I recieved an e-mail titled "Funeral In Heaven(Sri Lanka)" part of me was enticed. Out of all the music I listen to from all over the world, I tend not to run into many bands from Sri Lanka. As a matter of fact this would be the first. The other part of me was thinking "oh, this is probably your typical gimmicky black/death metal" which I don't particularly dislike, but I have not had the urge to listen to in some time. I have been in a musical funk lately, I've been listening mostly to early american blues music circa 1900-1950. Funeral In Heaven snapped me right the fuck out of that. It is a good thing too. I was missing out.

I put on the first track with preconceived notions. I was stunned. An instrumental track and it sounded like some sort of ancient tribal music. I instantly was interested in listening to the rest of the E.P.

Funeral In Heaven have managed to take the traditional Sri Lankan music and black metal and fuse them into some sort of unholy bastard child. They did this without making either one suck. I literally got chills at certain spots on this E.P.

If you're out there listening to Cradle Of Filth or some other mainstream garbage black metal, please remove your head from your ass, careful to not let the popping sound make you go deaf, throw away your record collection, and restart it with this bands E.P.

After the first track I was already wishing this was a full length album. This experimental form of black metal may not be your favorite if you're into super raw black metal, seriously though if all you listen to is super raw black metal, you're missing out on the awesomeness of bands that do interesting stuff. This E.P. made me envision cult rituals going on while this entire album was playing. Awesome atmosphere. Usually I don't press too much for the readers to download any specific albums, but this NEEDS to be downloaded and listened to if you're any sort of fan of black metal. Anyway, I'm terrible at reviews as you have just read. Ha ha. You just shouldn't miss this.

In correspondence with Chathuranga the vocalist. He gave me some pretty cool information. That extreme metal primarily dominates the scene there. Maybe I need to reconsider a change of environment here. He also hooked it up with some videos:

System Fucker - Self Titled E.P. - 2009

So yeah we all know Disclose and Shitlickers. Blah blah every blog that posted this album or any information about them compares them to being noiser than Disclose and just as d-beat as Shitlickers. I don't really care about the comparison all that much, but it feels like everyone is just copying one another. The real reason they are compared to Disclose is because they are Japanese and playing punk, and Shitlickers because they cover one of their tunes on this release. There I said it! So what do we know about System Fucker? Well they're from Japan, play some insane noisy crust punk I'd assume is in Japanese since all of the song titles except a a cover song and one other track is in English. Besides they're from Japan. So that's a pretty safe assumption to make. Obviously they are influenced by Shitlickers since they covered "Warsystem" I guess you really don't need to know anything else except for the fact that this album is gonna remove your brain, butt fuck it, then put your brain back in upside down.

Chicken Bowels - E.P. - 1985

Note: Chicken Bowels were blazing fast for their time. They tended to stay more melodic then other Japanese bands. They fell into obscurity rather quickly compared to bands like G.I.S.M., Confuse, Sieg Heil, etc. Granted this is not the noisiest, most raw, fastest, or craziest band from Japan they have a place in my heart as one of my favorite 80's japanese bands. They almost remind me of a Japanese Minor Threat, in the way they sound music wise on this E.P. I dunno maybe that's just me. I still find this to be an incredible output, from my favorite scene in the world. Japanese bands always seem to plays with more energy and feeling. I don't think any fan of Hardcore punk, especially if rooted in the 80's will be disappointed with this E.P.

Wolvhammer

Minneapolis has long been a hive for many upcoming metal and punk bands. What we have here is Wolvhammer, a self described "Blackened sludge punk" band. They are one of those bands that have so many influences it's really difficult to pinpoint them as one particular genre of music. Not that any of that labeling shit really matters anyway. It's fast, heavy, sludge-fueled, and hateful. If any of that is up your alley then this is the perfect band for you. Check them out.

Note: If you haven't ever heard of The Mummies...I pity your poor little soul. Usually we post either politically motivated or anti-religious bands/music. So it's time to cut loose with The Mummies. What happens when you combine Surf Rock, Punk, Garage Rock, Shitty pawn shop bought equipment, and a few dudes with piss poor attitudes dressed up in full mummy garb? Well you end up with The Mummies as a final product.

To understand the insanity of The Mummies I believe this video despite poor quality sums it up:
Yeah they are that energetic, he did throw one of the drummers cymbals, and at the end of the video the pianist/singer is starting a fight with the guitarist for playing the wrong chords in the song.

"The best band that you could wipe your ass with!"

I remember when my friend Bill introduced me to this band I was instantly changed and was hooked ever since then. Hopefully you can let down your ultra punk and metal guard and enjoy some energetic garage punk!
